She noticed the things I stopped seeing

I booked one clean before my in-laws visited and ended up on a fortnightly plan. Vee got the grease film off the range hood that I had honestly stopped noticing, and she lines the kids' shoes up by the door every time without being asked. Coming home on cleaning day is the best part of my week.

Full deposit back, no argument

Landlord walked through the apartment for maybe four minutes and handed back the whole deposit. The oven had eight years of previous tenants baked into it and it came out looking like a showroom. They finished on the quoted hours and told me up front what the extra time on the oven would cost before they started.

Six months later it is still tidy

The organising session was the thing I did not know I needed. Everything came out of the pantry, got sorted into what we actually eat, and went back in labelled containers. My husband can find the coffee filters now. That is a real sentence I get to say.

Our clients comment on it

We run a small insurance office and clients sit in that waiting room for twenty minutes at a time. Since Veron took over the weekly clean, three separate people have said the place smells fresh instead of like old carpet. Invoicing is simple and they have never once missed a Thursday.

Honest about time, which I respect

The bathrooms and kitchen were genuinely transformed, grout and all. They ran over the booked hours because our basement stairs were worse than I described, and they called me first rather than surprising me on the bill. I would have preferred a bit more notice on arrival time, but the work itself was excellent.

Drywall dust gone from places I could not reach

After the kitchen remodel there was fine dust on top of every door frame and inside every light fixture. Two people, most of a day, and the house was liveable again. They put down protection before they started so nothing got scratched. Worth every dollar.

From Veron Cleaning

Ms. Vee on cleaning matters

Twenty questions get asked in every kitchen in Southampton. Here are the honest answers, the same ones Ms. Vee gives her own clients while she works.

Order of work

Why do you always clean the bathroom before the floors?

Gravity decides the order. Dust, limescale flakes and spray all end up on the floor, so if you mop first you are just going to mop again. I work top to bottom in every room and leave the floor for last. It is the single biggest reason a professional clean holds up longer than a rushed one.

Top to bottom, floors last, every single time.

Products

Is bleach really the strongest thing you can use?

Bleach whitens, it does not clean. If there is soap scum or body oil sitting on the surface, the bleach never touches the thing you are worried about. Wash the surface with a degreaser first, rinse it, then disinfect. And never mix bleach with anything containing ammonia or vinegar. That combination is genuinely dangerous in a small bathroom.

Clean first, disinfect second, and never mix your bottles.

Dwell time

What do professionals do that most people skip?

We wait. Almost every product needs to sit on the surface for a few minutes before it does its job, and most people spray and wipe in one motion. Spray the shower, go do the mirrors and the sink, come back. The scrubbing you were dreading mostly disappears.

Spray, walk away, come back. Let the product do the scrubbing.

Microfibre

Does it matter which cloth I use?

More than the spray does. Microfibre lifts and traps, cotton pushes things around. Use a colour per zone so a bathroom cloth never reaches a worktop, and wash them with no fabric softener at all. Softener coats the fibres and kills the grab, which is why an old cloth suddenly stops working.

One colour per zone, and keep softener away from microfibre.
